He also instituted the Vivekananda Education Society (VES), which is an NGO with an international reputation. The objective of VMS is to impart “Man-making and Character building” education to its students in accordance with the principles of Swamiji Vivekananda. VMS currently has three branches in West Bengal - VMS Joka (Kolkata), VMS Haldia and VMS Baruipur.

Welcome to Vivekananda Mission Group of Schools, operating under the aegis of Vivekananda Education Society. Our journey began in a two story building with very limited resources way back in 1978 with a vision of nurturing the perfection inherent in every young learner, in accordance with the principles of Swami Vivekananda. Since their inception, the schools have grown in strength over the years and are currently ranked amongst the best in the state. Our academic success is a testimonial to that. We have produced national toppers in board exams and carved a niche for ourselves in the academic area of the state. The salient feature of the schools that sets them apart from others is the personal touch in grooming of the young minds. An eye for the all round development of the child and quality service are the add ons.
The strong foundation of the schools is on the ideals and philosophy of Swami Vivekananda. Education in Swamiji’s words, is ‘the manifestation of perfection that is already in a man’. According to him, education is a continuous process. It should cover all aspects of life – material, physical, emotional, moral and spiritual.
In today’s world, where change is happening at such a rapid pace, it is perhaps time for all of us to pause and reflect on the current education system and understand the relevance of Swamiji’s thoughts on education. Here in VMS, we aspire to provide that ‘man making’ education to our students so they are able to stand on their own feet to meet the challenges of the ever changing world and become sensitive and responsible citizens.
Caring and catering for each individual child is the hallmark of VMS, because we understand that each child is unique. Our team of highly dedicated teachers and support staff along with a very committed and supportive management work hand in hand to make sure that a child attains his/her optimum potential.
As mentioned, academic laurels, success in board examinations have been the feature of our schools. But at the same time we make conscious efforts to combine our academic achievements with the right mix of co-curricular activities along with life skill education.
