An educational excursion to Sunderbans was organised by the School for the departments of GEOGRAPHY, HISTORY and ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE for the students of classes 11 and 12.
The excursion included a comprehensive house-hold survey of the villages where honey collection and fishing are performed. The students spoke to villagers and learnt about sustainable practices with most important being the rainwater harvesting. They also came to know of the challenges the villagers face due to changing environmental conditions. A short tribal dance entertained the students in the evening.
This was followed by a visit to the Bonobibi Temple, dedicated to the guardian deity Bonobibi, who is considered as the protector of the forest and its people.
This excursion left a lasting impact regarding the importance of preserving such an unique culture and environment.
