READ TO GROW – A Workshop on Reading
“ Reading is a uniquely portable magic.” Reading is one of the major skills which helps a learner communicate better.
A two – hour workshop on Reading Skills was organised by the school for the teachers of transition and Class l on August 4, 2023. It stressed on the use of different modalities and resources to enrich reading competencies in children.
The resource person of the day was Ms .Samudrika Armsted, an alumnus of La Martiniere School for Girls and St. Xavier’s College,currently, teaching at Gems- Our own Indian School in Dubai. She has done action research on developing the reading skills of young learners.
The inaugural address was given by our Prefect sister, Ms. Anindita Majumdar and the workshop was attended by our Vice Principal sister, Ms. Ananya Dutta and our beloved Sister Raha.
It was an interesting and interactive session emphasizing on the illuminating power of reading and the various strategies that could be used to inculcate the habit of reading in children and involve them in reading.

An activity was also designed for the teachers. Story books were given and teachers had to read and prepare a plan on how they could give critical thinking tasks based on the story in classroom situation to the children. The plan needed to be interesting and engaging as well as having a cross curricular link. Then there was a Gallery Walk where teachers analysed each other’s work and gave their feedback.
The workshop closed with a review of the topics covered, a feedback on what went well and what could have been done better as well as an engaging question- answer session.The session was quite enriching.
