WORKSHOP ON UNDERSTNDING CHILDREN’S EMOTIONAL AND HIGH ESTEEM NEEDS
The notion that educators can play a fundamental role in fostering children’s social and emotional well-being through a holistic approach in education is receiving a growing worldwide acknowledgement.
Our esteemed institution, Vivekananda Mission School, Joka, always believes in holistic approach to education. We aim to embrace each child’s cognitive, emotional, social, physical and spiritual development.
To enhance our teacher’s understanding of the children’s emotional high esteem needs and to enrich their life skills, a workshop was organized by our school on 1st July 2023.
The resource person for the day was Mrs. Sumita Banerjea – a Ph.D.in History, an educator and also trained in psychological counseling.
About 150 teachers from lower primary, primary and middle school participated in the workshop. It was an interactive session where the resource person focused on child centric classrooms, interdisciplinary approaches and student empowerment.
Mrs. Sumita Banerjea emphasized on the negative impact of labeling children. She focused on making positive comments, in order to build self-esteem of the students. The 5Cs – Commitment, Connectedness, Challenge, Compassion and Confidence were explained with real life examples and its importance in building teacher –student relationship was emphasized.
There was a group activity session for the teachers, in which our teachers participated with all their enthusiasm. The innovativeness of our teachers was highly appreciated by Mrs. Sumita Banerjea.
It was an enriching and motivating for the teachers and the session has immensely helped the teachers to grow and mature in their field.
